4-5 May 2019
Welcome to your Weekend Preview for 4-5 May, 2019. Here’s your look at the Aussies who are competing around the world this weekend.
Caitlin Wood takes on the world in W Series Opener
Australian Caitlin Wood will be racing on the world stage this weekend, as she competes in the first ever W Series race at Hockenheim. The W Series, designed to provide exposure and experience for female drivers, will award a $500,000 prize to the champion of its six-race series, with a $1.5 million prize pool paid out amongst the entire field.
Race 1 starts Sunday 00:15 AEST, and will be live-streamed on SBS On Demand.
Australian Formula Ford championship battle resumes at Ipswich
Australian Formula Ford hits the tarmac at Queensland Raceway this weekend for Round 2 of the National championship. Tom Sargent, leader after Round 1, will be hoping to capitalise despite never having raced at Ipswich before, with rivals Callum Hedge and Zac Soutar hot on his tail after all three took one race win each in the first round.
"I haven't been to Queensland [before] and I won't get any testing, so I'll be straight in. CHE have done a little bit there, so hopefully we'll have the car setup [nailed] and we can continue on [the positive start]", said Sargent at the end of round one at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Joey Mawson joins Formula Regional European
Sydney’s Joey Mawson will join Van Amersfoort Racing AV from the second round of Formula Regional European onwards, joining German driver Sophia Flörsch. Mawson won the ADAC Formula 4 title in 2016 with the team, defeating rival Mick Schumacher, and has since competed in the FIA European F3 in 2017 and GP3 in 2018.
